For at least the last 20 years, I’ve found that Boobs do indeed make great little and perhaps big (I wouldn’t really know about this) ambassadors. I spent a good time of my adult life running, and lots of that in hot weather – in the south. Now, I lived in a big city – Dallas – and it has lots of strip clubs, but still, it has lots of Baptist Churches. Every time I would not think about what a white shirt and bra might look like half way into a hot run, and wear this combination, I found people would smile at me. Big, heart-felt smiles. Not just men, but women, too. Now, maybe since my breasts were on the smaller size, they weren’t intimidating to women and still gave men something to smile about. Since it was in the south, one would think there might be some sneers or righteous people handing a towel or cover-up. Never happened. BTW, since I had a double mastectomy and reconstruction, I still run, but now need a much more serious bra to hold the still small, but now more delicate, gals in place. So, I can no longer provide this amusement or conduct such surveys.
It does lead me to wonder why our US society still has such a problem with female breasts. When search engines first came out, they didn’t even allow for a search on the word breast. This was most inconvenient for people with breast cancer – oh, and about 1% of the cases are male in the USA. Facebook talks about the trouble they had even defining nudity in pictures with regards to breasts. Woman wanted to put up pictures of them breastfeeding their children, so eventually, they allowed it – but only if the nipple and areola aren’t showing. Oh, this spell editor doesn’t even recognize areola as a word. Come-on! Europe has not had a problem showing breasts at least since I’ve been an adult.
Why do we find ourselves in a situation where we can show people being shot to hell on TV, sell video games of mass murders, yet somehow, can’t show a female breast? Even as people appear to be delighted in the suggestion of one? I challenge other gals to go out for a run in a top where your nipples will show and let me know if you scare or offend anyone or if you simply make people happy.
